ECVHS School-Wide Goals  El Cajon Valley High School will meet or exceed its yearly API growth target as established by the California Department of Education.  The percentage of 10th grade students who pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) will increase each year.  The percentage of students receiving either a grade of A, B or C will increase each year.  The percentage of students who graduate each year and the percentage of students who complete the A-G graduation requirements each year will increase.  The percentage of students in each graduating class who complete an AP course will increase each year and the number of AP exams taken and passed will increase each year.  The percentage of student absences coded as period truancies and all-day truancies will decrease month over month from the previous year and the Average Daily Attendance (A.D.A.) will increase month over month from the previous year.

Recommendations from 2006 Demonstration Visit

1. Continue the process to refine site team involvement and expectations. Recommended areas to address include: transition/attrition from tenth to eleventh/twelfth, investigate/review a variety of guidance department organizations to support AVID. Recommendation #1:

Transition/attrition from 10 th through 12 th : AVID elective teachers function as a PLC to align expectations to make transition from one grade level to the next smooth and to reduce attrition:  vertical curriculum alignment  Four-year plan  common grading categories  common syllabus  common learning objectives  common assessments  pull-out days  Wikispace to post agreed upon expectations  revised student contract  common expectations and agreements related to probation status in program and requirements to remain in program

Guidance department support: Classroom presentations by counselors to discuss scholarship opportunities (Garica & Picon) Assistance with filling out FAFSA and college applications by counselors (Garica & Picon) Administration of PSAT to all 10 th grade students in English classes (Samson) Promotion of “Got Plans” college and career fair and transportation (Sliwa) Bringing students on college trips (CalSate San Marcos) (Sliwa) V.P. gives priority registration to AVID students and provides goal- setting worksheets for all AVID students after every grading period Counselor provides informational workshops through ASSETs program (Picon) Registrar provides transcripts for all AVID students after every grading period Registrar assists AVID coordinator with all required data

2. Refine the current plan that outlines specific support and resources to enhance recruitment efforts. Recommendation #2:

Recruitment Plan:  Recruitment for incoming 9 th graders: Beginning in February AVID Coordinator, AVID elective teachers, and AVID students visit two main feeder schools (Cajon Valley Middle and Greenfield) to present PowerPoint and hand out applications AVID Coordinator sets up schedule with middle school AVID teacher to collect applications Interviews are set up in May for incoming 9 th graders Recruitment continues in summer school and during Freshmen orientation week  Recruitment for new 10 th graders: Beginning in May AVID Coordinator will make announcement to all 9 th grade English teachers and counselors asking for recommendations for current 9 th graders to join program the next year AVID Coordinator will obtain transcripts for all recommended students and AVID elective teachers will help conduct interviews The number of students selected will depend on how many spots will be open for the next year

CSS Recommendations

1) Continue to enhance the current plan to regularly provide parent/guardian and/or family inclusion efforts including multiple workshops for AVID parents.  Parent workshops offered: Back-to-school parent night for all AVID parents Parent survey handed out at beginning of school year Parent workshops offered through ASSETs program Parent involvement in DASH for college fundraiser Parent workshop for junior college field trip Parent workshop for FAFSA information and assistance

2) Develop and implement a systematic college test prep program that begins in the 9th grade to ensure 100% of AVID students will have participated in college testing (i.e. PSAT, PLAN, Explore, SAT, ACT) at each grade level.  For 9 th graders we plan on giving them the EXPLORE test. The AVID coordinator has already ordered information about the procedure to administer the test and submitted a written proposal to school site council to obtain funds to administer the test.  All 10 th graders have already taken the PSAT on October 14, 2009, funded by the district.  All 11 th graders will take the SAT and the ACT at end of school year.  All 12 th graders have already taken the SAT and/or ACT at the end of their junior year and again at the beginning of this school year.  El Cajon Valley High School is proud to administer the SAT test on our campus for the 3 rd year. We already offered it on October 10, 2009 and will offer again in June  On October 27, 2009 all the AVID elective teachers collaborated during a PLC pull-out day to create a vertically aligned approach to test prep in all AVID elective classes from 9 th through 12 th grade. We agreed on test prep skills and resources that will be used at each grade level. A copy of our plan can be found on our wikispace at  Another pull-out day scheduled for December 16, 2009 to continue the discussion about test prep.

3) Continue to increase AP enrollment so that 100% of AVID seniors and 80% of AVID juniors have completed at least one AP course. Additionally, the percentage of AVID seniors taking AP exams is to increase from the previous year.  To date, 100% of AVID seniors have already taken or will take an AP course by the end of the school year.  To date, 87% of AVID juniors have already taken or are currently enrolled in an AP course.  Last year, _________ of AVID seniors took an AP exam some time in their high school career. This year we plan to increase that percentage.
