Projects for Nathan Lamb SmartKart Modifications Mobile Stander Porch Glider iHome Controller Client Contact: Janice M. Lamb 142 Barnes Road Stonington, CT (860) , Team 2: Hunter D'Addeo Saif Ejaz Diana Manivong

Outline Background Purpose for projects Completed Projects Budget Acknowledgements

Client Background Nathan was born with spina- bifida; a birth defect that prevents the backbone and spinal canal from closing before birth. This causes him to have a weak torso. Nathan has no control over his legs, and has sole use of his left arm. He presents with hydrocephally, and has a cerebral shunt to drain excess fluid. Nathan is also cognitively impaired and has slight autism.

Purpose for Projects Nathan’s parents want him to enjoy the sensation of movement, as well as have some independence in his choices of auto-locomotion and music in his room. These projects are aimed at allowing Nathan to enjoy the pleasures often experienced by boys his age

Smart Kart Adjusted turning radius - Adjusted tie rod attachment to be closer to the turning axis allowing for a larger range in motion

Smart Kart Replaced corroded circuit board with Chipkit max32 integrated circuit board - Interfaces more appropriately with power supply and components

Smart Kart Replaced biaxial joystick on Nathan's side Took out xbox controller on passenger side -Utilize rotational potentiometer for steering - Uniaxial joystick for throttle and brake

Mobile Stander Added left handed One Arm Drive mechanism to mobile stander -Mechanism normally designed for wheelchair wheels and frame

Mobile Stander Extended Lever arm and main support shaft Extended width of cushioning pads

iHome Remote Built iPad interface that allows Nathan to choose desired playlist -Chooses from his favorites: -Big Bird -Elmo -Barney

iHome Remote Uses Apple Airport Express to communicate from iPad to iHome Buttons on iPad app interface with the media library and play songs from the specified playlists in a random order

iHome Remote Implemented Apple's "Xcode" program to design and build the remote app -Objective C and Cocoa Touch languages

Porch Glider Added support planks and casters Added padding Added seatbelts

Budget Total allocated budget: $ Total Spent: $ Glider: $ Mobile Stander: Metal stock: $29.87 Smart Kart: Joysticks: $ Circuit board:$87.00
