6 th Grade Math Mrs. Amy Barnes

Students will become more independent this year, and we will expect them to become more responsible! Their education is a combination of THREE things-- you, me, and THEM! THEY have to be RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR LEARNING! I will be here to teach them, they need to be here to learn, and you should be there to help them when needed. Them being here includes them paying attention, focusing on the lesson, doing their class work and homework, asking for help when needed, and caring about their learning.

The BEST thing you could do to help your child succeed in math this year is to make sure they know their MULTPLICATION facts!!! I can NOT stress enough how EVERYTHING we do builds off of that ONE skill. I already see students struggling because they simply do not know these facts. I do NOT have time to review basic facts! Get them some flashcards, or an app on their phone to practice. Practice with them! HELP them!!!! It is CRUCIAL! I PROMISE you that if you child knows their facts, they will be more successful in math. Those that do NOT know them, will struggle.

Grades-100% Assessments Assessments: tests—EVERY FRIDAY! (Unless otherwise stated.) Homework is 1/9 of the whole grade— It is based on total number of assignments and how many the student completed. Students sign the responsibilty binder when not complete. Students will receive at least 9 grades each 9 weeks. Students will take an end of nine weeks test at the end of each 9 weeks. It will be CUMULATIVE! Every student EARNS the grade they receive! Check JPAMS regularly! It is YOUR way to keep up with your child’s grades! We do NOT send home weekly “Test Folders.” Check your child’s teachers’ web pages weekly! Grading

Test Corrections Students who receive a C, D, or F on a test may make test corrections. The corrections must be completed on a separate piece of paper and stapled to the original test. DO NOT ERASE OR ALTER what was on the original test. They will receive 1 point for every CORRECT correction. They must turn in the corrections with in a week of receiving their test. This is the ONLY extra credit available.

Missed Work All assignments are written on the calendar. Any missed handouts are in the orange drawer under the calendar. It IS the STUDENT’S responsibility to get the work they missed. Students MUST ASK if they need help with missed assignments! Students get the same number of days to make up the work as they were absent (i.e. absent 1 day, 1 day to make up work)

Missed Work Students MUST make up missed tests during their PE class. They must ask for a pass to miss PE to make up the test. It is important that they make up missed tests as soon as possible. Students are expected to complete any missed work on their time. Making things up in class only gets them further behind.

Miscellaneous Students should stay organized! ing me is the BEST way to contact me. I will do my best to give tests/graded assignments back with in a week. Check my website for weekly updates and homework! Textbooks were given out today. PLEASE be sure they are taken care of! They can NOT be replaced! PENCILS! Pens are NOT allowed! Late work will NOT be accepted. If your child is absent the day something is due, it is expected the day they return to school.
