Do good designs appeal to as many people as possible?

What is Design? Creating a plan to make something To make decisions about how something will look or behave Using creativity to transform something from mundane into exciting! visual communication making the boring interesting learning to simplify understanding people (often very specific groups of them)

By the end of this lesson you will: Be able to explain the difference between an artist and a designer Explain the design process Think about what makes a design good or bad

Intention What is the intention of an Artist? What is the intention of a Designer?

Process What does an artist do in order to make a successful piece of artwork? What does a designer do to make a successful design?

Function What is the function of Art? What is the function of Design?

Results What characteristics does a good piece of Art have? What defines successful design? If something only appeals to a certain group of people (target market) does that mean it is not a great design?

The Design process Ask Imagine Plan Create Improve Task one – Write down the 5 stages and use symbols and/or pictures to explain each stage of the process.
