Goal Implementation of the project: SD of cities and mitigation of CC in urban areas Task: To suggest innovative set of indicators To test set of sugested indicators – evaluation of selected Slovak cities towards SD

1. What was done Suggested set of urban SD indicators:  ECI, EU Thematic Strategy on Urban Environment TISSUE, STATUS)  Specific status of settlement structure in Slovakia (medium-sized and small cities 50,000  Included indicators from the social and economical fields.

1 How was it done Data collection by three main approaches: by questionnaire investigation by investigation of background documents and information, by data from relevant institutions and statistical resources

Conclusions Positive for EU15: traditions of EU cities to follow SD, mutual exchange of experiences and/or voluntarily acceptance of policies, implementation of EMAS, SEA proccesses Positive for SK: consumption patern of the Slovak citizens dominance of individual car transport Comparable: accessibility of green areas and services, unsufficient public participation of citizens, air pollution and noise level are similar

Recomendations Evaluation process should continue – 5 years period Creation of network - sustainable cities in Slovakia Financial support - grant programmes, state support, higher territorial units support Interest of Slovak cities Detailed results, conclusions and recommendations are presented in English publication.
