Welcome to Meet the Team Night! Mrs. Hadley- Science

Meet Mrs. Hadley Bachelors of Science in Education from IU-Indianapolis Middle School Science Addition to license Will finish Masters of Science Education with Biology addition in Fall of 2016 from WGU Taught 6 th grade science for almost 15 years – High Ability science for 7 years.

So Mrs. Hadley, tell me a little about yourself… Married (to the same man!) for 25 years this October! Have 2 amazing sons- Levi (22 years) and Logan (19)- Both in college and living downtown Apollo (my Great Dane) is my 3 rd son- he is almost 7.

What do I need to know about 6 th grade science? Mrs. Hadley and Mrs. Titus teach almost 120 students in a day. Some of your child’s day is similar to middle school i.e. Related Arts, Music, Math and Science (55-60 minute periods) Some of your child’s day is similar to elementary i.e. Language Arts (120 minute period) STEM Modules will be included in the 60 minute science classes as the year progresses. Your child will need a notecard system for ACT science vocabulary words by 8/10 th.

How will my child get a grade in science? Here is the breakdown for science grades: 25% is homework– 35 % is science lab – 40 % quizzes (.5) and tests 6 th grade science teaches a variety of science which includes: Scientific method and process skills, physical science ( Energy, Matter, etc.), Earth and space science (Seasons, Solar system) Life science (ecology), science –engineering technology (simple machines)

What can I expect for HA differentiation? Assessments which contain the same basic materials/standards but can include… - Complex open-ended questions - Evaluation and interpretation of a given set of data - Advanced math formulas and their application to science (ºF/ºC conversion, pie graphs, etc.) More science material from chapter and acceleration of material. Biology unit ( 7 th grade science standards) at the end of the year which includes the use of compound microscopes. 60 ACT science vocabulary words (cumulative assessment)- Notecards

Any final thoughts? We are in the lab 1-4 X a week and ALWAYS need lab supplies. ESPECIALLY now with STEM science! I have an updated list of needed supplies on my website. Please consider donating Please use my website for: homework, Bellringer review, many class handouts and due dates My contact information is on the web: OR X- Thank you again for coming. I look forward to a fantastic year of science!
