Teaching important points 1.Learn the following words and useful expressions:set an example to ;separartion, minister, tennis. 2.Help the students understand the text better. Teaching difficult points : 1.The background of the Black Civil Right Movement in the USA in the1960s. 2.The fuse of the Black Civil Right Movement. 3.The characteristics of King, the main events in King’s life and his contribution to American Blank Rights Movement and even to the world peace and human progress.

Teaching methods: 1.Discussion about the questions written on the blackboard. 2.Fast reading and careful reading to understand the passage exactly. Teaching aids: 1.A projector and some slices 2.A blackboard Teaching procedures Step1:Greeting and leading-in: T:Good morning, everyone. S:Good morning, teacher. T:Today,we’ll learn Lesson 74 together.I would like to share my ideas with you. Before we begin our class,I want to tell you some background about this text.Several hundred years ago, some black people were shipped from Africa to America as slaves for lack of labor forces in America. And after the America Civil War,the black people gained freedom from slavery by law.But they still led a hard life and were treated very unfairly by the Whites. On December 1st,1955,a black woman,Rosa Parks, got on a bus and sat in the “White Only”section, and she refused to move and was taken away by the police.Hearing the news, the black people in the US were very angry, they formed a group and began to struggle for their own rights, and the Black Rights Movement in American history began.

Step:2 presentation T:That’s the background of the text. Now,let’s go to the text. First. We will learn some new words:set an example to,minister, tennis, separation, marriage, educate. Now.let’s go to the text. After learning the new words we’ll have less difficulties in understanding the text.Who wants to read the text for us? (to the students)First, read the passage carefully to get a general idea and make a mark where you can’t understand.I’ll write some questions on the blackboard. Question: 1.Who is Martin Luther King.Jr? 2.What’s the situation of the black people in the South of the US in the 1960s? 3.What are King’s ideas about his revolution? 4.Why he was murdered? (to the students)Now,I would divide our class into four groups, and each group will discuss one of the questions respectively. In each group everyone must take part in the discussion of the question and then one member will write down the answer on a piece of paper and then read it to us.

(ten minutes later) T:Stop here, please.Let’s go to the first question ?Who knows the answer?Any volunteer? S1:(stands up)In the 1960s,the southern states passed their own laws to continue the separation of blacks and whites.Mixed race marriages were forbidden by law,and there were separate sections for blacks in shops, restaurauts, etc. T:Yes,very good. The condition of the black people is very miserable and even intolarvable. The second question, who will answer? S2: (stands up)All his life,Martin Luther King.Jr believed that it was right and necessary to demand changes in society. If people did not have their goal by peaceful revolution, not by fighting and hilling. T:Yes,very precisely and exactly. Martin Luther King believe in peaceful revolution. Now,the third, any volunteer? S4:(stands up)Because he struggled for the Black civil right and made many enemies who hated him very much,so they murdered him. T:Right,King was a freedom fighter.Hefaught for the black civil right and human progress. So he also suffered much from the racists.

Step3:discussing after reading T:Now we’ve already had a general ider about the text.I would like to ask you a question:what are King’s characteristics? Please have a discuss after the class. T:(summing up)Through the text,we can reach the conclusion:Martin Luther King was a warm-hearted and strong-willed man,was a n important political leader in the US and a freedom fighter. He loved peace and human progress and hated at fighting in any form and racial discrimination. Step4:summing and homework T:Today,we’ve learnt some new words and we also know the background of the Black Right Movementin the 1960s in the US.
