Presentation transcript:

What does it mean? At the moment, young people can leave full time education at the end of year 11. This is changing; from 2015 all young people will have to stay in learning until they are 18.

If you are in Year 9 and below You will have to remain in learning until you are at least 18.

If you are in Year 10 The law says that you will have to stay in learning until you are in Year 12.

Does this mean you have to stay at school? No, but you do have to be in learning. This includes: –full-time education, such as school or college –work-based learning, such as an Apprenticeship –part-time education or training if you have a job or are self-employed or volunteering for more than 20 hours a week

Education is free until you are 19 Until you are 19 you can study at school or college for free After this you may have to pay It is important that you make the most of any courses you might want to do while they are still free

Next Steps? Think hard about what you hope to do in the future and find out what qualifications you need. You can’t just leave school so you do need to have a plan. Find out what everyone is offering and think about the best choice for you.

Who can help you? Your Careers Adviser in school Your tutors and teachers Your parents

Where can you get information? Good place to start is Bradford 4 Learning
