2011 SUPER OUTBREAK

Occurred from April 25 th to April 28 th tornados spread across 21 states, but had the largest impacts in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee and Virginia 208 of the tornados occurred on April 27 th, the deadliest tornado day in this country’s history since SUPER OUTBREAK

346 fatalities as a result of the outbreak 322 of these deaths were directly caused by the tornados, while the remaining 24 deaths were a result of ensuing flash floods, hail storms and lightening 239 of the 322 deaths were recorded in Alabama alone FATALITIES

VILONIA TORNADO First tornado of the outbreak to result in fatalities Struck Vilonia, Arkansas in Faulkner County around 7:30 PM Could have had a significantly higher amount of fatalities if not for the tornado warning issued 30 minutes prior 4 fatalities Major structural damage to houses and buildings within Vilonia

On April 27 th, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley declared a state of emergency as a result of severe thunderstorms and Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee and Oklahoma also declared a state of emergency due to their tornados and flash floods. On April 27 th, Barrack Obama issued a federal emergency declaration for the state of Alabama This sent search and rescue units to the affected regions of the state AFTERMATH
