PREVENTING ACCIDENTS WITH THE Abc “Prevent you today, save you tomorrow” IES PINTOR LUIS SÁEZ (BURGOS, SPAIN)

WHO ARE WE? We’re a group made by 8 students who have a subject called entrepreneurship. In this subject we are supposed to present a proyect and we decided to participate in this Renault competition.

WHY PARTICIPATING? The intention of participating started when our teacher told us about the contest. We visualized this proyect as a good way to encaurage people’s knowledge about road safety, which is a real serious problem that affects all of us.

DETECTED PROBLEMS IN ROAD SAFETY Little use of rental bikes (called “Bicibur” in our city) Lack of knowledge about road safety specially in childrens. Many accidents on the road. Lot of pollution caused by motors.

BRAINSTORMING Initially, we focused on “Bicibur”. We thought abot making some polls to the citizens to learn what people know about “Bicibur” (if they usually use the rental bikes, if they know how to rent them…) and after the polls, encourage the use of the bikes by doing different plans. We thought about doing some activities such us preparing a race using the rental bikes, making posters with slogans to live up the use of bikes, teach people how to rent local bikes…

BRAINSTORMING (2) After collecting ideas about Bicibur, we decided to create an app for our local city mixing that with road stuffs. We established to add a map of the city where you can find bike stations, radars, parking spaces…

FINAL IDEA But as our first idea didn’t worked at all, we made the decision to change it. And that’s how our proyect started. We looked back to our problems and we determined to teach children road safety, because we consider that is a vital knowledge. Actually, in the beginning we focused on children with some dificulties to learn, like children with autism, but we rejected this idea because we had many problems to carry it out. But we didn´t give up, so we manteined the same concept to teach children without dificulties.

HOW CAN WE TEACH ROAD SAFETY TO CHILDREN? For instruct easyly road safety, we have created an alphabet with most of the letters. The abc has a draw and a caption that goes with a key word that starts with each letter of the alphabet. The images and the text attachs the key word for a complete understanding of road safety.
