The History of Computers By: Adam Kershek

Grace Hopper On September 9th she recorded the first computer bug. Developed the first compiler, A-O. Her work with languages lead to the creation of the COBOL, a language in which operates on machines of different manufacturers. She helped program the Harvard Mark I and II

Complex Number Calculator (CNC) Created by George Stibitz Finished in 1939 He demonstrated the calculator at an American Mathematical Society conference The device amazed many at this conference This event was the first demonstration of remote access computing. Complex Number Calculator (CNC)

Finished on May 21, 1952 This was a magnetic tape that was able to inexpensively store a large amount of information. This device was very important to the computer revolution. First high-speed magnetic tape system for electronic digital computers Used a vacuum channel method which involved a circle of tape revolving around two points, this enabled the tape to stop and start. First sold with the Model 701 and could store 2 million digits per tape IBM 726

UNIMATE First industrial robot Began its work at General Motors This Robot Obeys step-by-step commands stored on a magnetic drum 4,000 pounds Stacks hot pieces of die-cast metal. UNIMATE
