Promethean Board By: Celeste Hernandez Tech Tool Assignment

What I chose: The tool that I have chosen is something called the Promethean Board. While completing observation hours earlier this semester, I had the pleasure of sitting in on a first- grade class. In this classroom, some students were engaged in independent reading, while others were testing on the computer. The teacher was explaining what they do throughout the day, and suddenly stopped and excitedly exclaimed that I just had to check out their Promethean Board. I had no idea what she was talking about, but I was anxious to know.

What is the Promethean Board? She quickly explained that the board is an interactive whiteboard that allows students and children alike to “write” on the board by electronic touch. It uses a pen-like instrument that allows the user to “write” on it with a touch of the pen. Students were completing math problems and spelling on the board. If they messed up, which is bound to happen, this interactive board allows the students to choose the eraser and erase what they need. It is really neat!

Information on the Promethean Board What: I had never in my life heard of this tool previous to my encounter at the elementary school I observe at. Why: I want to learn more about this tool because it is truly technology at its finest. The students were so eager to show me what they can do with it. They even knew how to calibrate it! I want to learn more about it because I really hope to have one in my own classroom later. How: The Promethean Board will apply my knowledge as an educator because I can use the board as a supplement to a lesson that I am already teaching. When and Where: I could use this classroom at least once a week. If that particular day is being focused on spelling, I can use the board to have kids feel more willing to learn because they enjoy technology. Who: Essentially, I believe student benefit most from this tool. Students need to enjoy learning and I honestly believe this board helps students in that sense.

Additional Information: Ultimately, I learned that this tool is a great way for a teacher to incorporate technology into their classroom without sacrificing time. In addition, the Promethean Board also has something called the “Promethean World” where they can look for specific lessons and download them. They’re like mini-lessons on the board.
