DEFINITION A SEED IS THE YOUNG ONE OF A PLANT. IT IS FOUND INSIDE A FRUIT,USUALLY, IT GIVES RISE TO A YOUNG PLANT.

STAGES OF GROWTH

STRUCTURE OF A SEED A SEED HAS AN OUTER COVERING CALLED SEED-COAT. INNER TO THIS ARE THE COTYLEDONS WHICH STORE FOOD. BETWEEN THE COTYLEDONS ARE THE RADICLE AND THE PLUMULE WHICH GIVE RISE TO THE ROOT AND SHOOT RESPECTIVELY.

TYPES OF SEEDS SEEDS ARE OF DIFFERENT TYPES. SOME MAY BE SMALL AND SOME MAY BE BIG. SOME ARE EDIBLE AND SOME NOT SO. SOME ARE COLOURED AND SOME NOT.

SEEDS EATEN AS FOOD SOME SEEDS ARE EATEN AS PART OF FOOD. FOR EXAMPLE--- CORIANDER, DALS, PULSES, CLOVES, CARDAMOM, MUSTARD, WHEAT, RICE, BARLEY, OATS JOWER PEAS ETC. …..,

SPROUTS SPROUTS ARE SEEDS WITH A PARTIAL GROWTH USED AS FOOD. THEY ARE GOOD FOR HEALTH AND CONTAIN A LOT OF VITAMINS AND MINERALS. EXAMPLE---- CHANNA DAL, MOONG DAL,CHICKPEAS ETC.

DISPERSAL OF SEEDS SEEDS MAY BE DISPERSED THROUGH SEVERAL MEANS---BY AIR, BY WATER, BY ANIMALS, BY BIRDS, BY MECHANICAL MEANS,BY MAN ETC.

INSECTIVOROUS PLANTS SOME PLANTS EAT INSECTS,AND SMALL ANIMALS. SUCH PLANTS ARE CALLED INSECTIVOROUS PLANTS. EXAMPLES ARE—DROSERA OR SUNDEW, PITCHER PLANT,VENUS FLY TRAP ETC.

REQUISITES FOR GROWTH SEEDS NEED AIR, WATER, SOIL AND SUNLIGHT TO GROW.

POEM FROM SOUTH AMERICA LONG AGO, CAME A TOMATO AND A POTATO, AND A GREEN CHILLI, A CABBAGE CAME FROM EUROPE, AND ALSO A PEA, FROM AFRICA CAME A COFFEE BEAN, AND A GREEN BHINDI. THEY CROSSED THE LAND. THEY CROSSED THE SEA. WE SAID ‘’WELCOME TO INDIA’’. ----COURTESY CLASS V TEXT BOOK
