Designing Your Dream Bedroom Dream Big Project Designing Your Dream Bedroom

Project Overview You will create a scale drawing for a bedroom redesign and research the costs associated with designing and furnishing it.

definition Scale Drawing: A drawing that shows a real object with sizes that are reduced or enlarged by a certain ratio (called the scale or scale factor).

Grades You will receive 3 grades for this project. You will be provided with the rubrics for each grade. You will be graded for each of the following: Expense List Scale Drawing Final Product

Expense list You will need to maintain a expense list for your bedroom redesign. You have a $25,000 budget. You must include tax in your calculations. Henry County’s sales tax is 7%. Find the prices of furniture, materials and decorations on various websites. My favorites are Pottery Barn and Land of Nod.

Scale Drawing You will need to maintain a list of actual measurements and the scaled down measurements for the items in your bedroom. You will also create a scale drawing on graph paper. A scale should be included on your drawing (for instance, 1 cm = 3 feet).

Final project grade You will also have a final project grade that will be determined by your participation, communication with me and/or your group, management of your time, preparedness, organization and a self and peer evaluation.

Turning in your work You may turn in your budget list, measurement list and scale drawing in any format you like. Digital copies can be emailed to me at anna.irvin@henry.k12.ga.us You will be provided with a paper copy of all documents if you prefer. Electronic versions can be found at my LMS teacher page.

Rules for groups Groups can be 1-3 students. 1.) Treat everyone with respect and value all group members’ ideas. 2.) Everyone must participate in developing the project. 3.) All ideas are discussed and agreed upon by the entire group. 4.) Members must work together to divide the tasks and develop a timeline for completing the project. 5.) Every group member is responsible for learning the content of the lesson.

Due Date Monday/Wednesday – Wednesday, May 20th Tuesday/Thursday – Thursday, May 21st

Tonight - Homework Measure a bedroom in your home. You may redesign a specific bedroom from a group’s house or create a brand new bedroom. These measurements will give you a starting place for your scale drawing.
