Mount Everest, situated in Nepal, Asia is the highest mountain in the world measuring 8,850m. Everest is one of the Seven Summits of the earth, the highest mountains in each continent. During the 1996 climbing season, fifteen people died trying to come down from the summit, making it the deadliest single year in Everest history. Eight of them died on 11 May alone. The disaster gained wide publicity and raised questions about the commercialization of Everest.
Mount Kilimanjaro, situated in Tanzania, Africa,measuring 5,895m is also a summit of the earth. The highest point on Kilimanjaro is Uhuru Peak, on the volcano Kibo. Its height value attracted a lot of interest as the reports of the first Europeans to see the mountain reached Europe.
