B.S. Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology M. Ed Education About me: Teaching experience: 7th year OCSA 4 years LAUSD

What do I do here at OCSA? (other than the obvious) Science Olympiad Team coach ACSEC Awards Chair honors chemistry teacher

What will they learn? 6 Big Ideas ( ± the whole book) 1) Matter and Atoms 2) Chemical Properties 3) Chemical Reactions 4) Reaction Rates 5) Thermodynamics 6) Equilibrium …and the 7 Science Practices Course was redesigned to fit a new inquiry and particle view model. I cover what is on the exam and do other things that I think are interesting or important

Advanced Placement Chemistry Teaching Philosophy:  The caliber of student who chooses to take AP chemistry is RIDICULOUSLY HIGH.  These students are our future doctors, lawmakers, teachers, authors, patent lawyers, businessmen and women, scientists, and Nobel Prize winners  It is my job to challenge them as young adults so they are prepared to do great things….. …...because doing great things requires a very trained, flexible mind.

Grades *Tests MC and FR, same as AP exam *Study Guides Due about every 5 blocks Total time: 5 hours per chapter, depending on your student *Labs 16 College Board approved lab… and FLabs and PLabs

What your student should be doing: In class: Participating in lecture by solving problems along with me Asking questions Working on study guide problems with peers Laboratory experiments Beginning laboratory reports At home: Printing lecture notes, study guides, etc. Completing outlines and study guide problems Meeting with Study Buddies Completing lab reports ing Ms Jonson for any needed clarification Not included: wasting time, discussing college plans, texting, socializing, complaining, or doing work for other classes

Resources I post resources, scholarships, etc on Sharepoint An AP study book is not required, but a College Board-approved one sure might help! Good ones: 5 Steps to a 5, Princeton Review, and I have heard that Baron’s isn’t so great. Make sure to get one that aligns to redesigned test ( school year or later).
