JOIN-UP: A JISC 5/99 Cluster four projects: Docusend, Xgrain, ZBLSA & ZETOC initially conceived as four separate projects – three as proposals to the JISC 5/99 Call to create infrastructure for JISC DNER now ‘closely-clustered’ as JOIN-UP Programme working together to create the DNER infrastructure for journal articles & the like

four ‘demand-side’ verbs discover information object of interest eg an article found in bibliographic citation or Abstract & Index databases (eg BIOSIS, WoS, etc) locate organisation offering service eg serial via library catalogues - union catalogues request use of service via payment or privilege from membership (of university, etc) access object of interest consult article via personal visit, document delivery, online access verbs based on MODELS workshops (UKOLN/JISC eLib)

need to ‘verify’ object being sought ‘identifier’ provides the linchpin Verify identification of article/serial Locate article/serial service Request access/delivery of article/serial Access article of interest Discover article of interest draws on work by ISSN-IC & CASA Project (EU 4th Framework)
