Old School, Flash, the process, and the effect Tattooing has on popular culture.

Although tattoos have been around forever, and have a long rich history… It hasn’t been until recently (the last 7-10 years) that they have made such an impact upon mainstream/popular culture. breakout WHY?

Major Influences in America Norman "Sailor Jerry" Collins (born 1911, died 1973)

-Joined the U.S. Navy at age 19. -Being exposed to imagery in Southeast Asia inspired his art, and eventually began tattooing while still in the Navy. -While in his 20’s he opened a shop in Honolulu, Hawaii; mainly for sailors. -Known for creating the “traditional old school” look of Tattoos. - Don Ed Hardy trained under Norman, was one of his proteges.
