 British colonial society also had rigid social classes  Planters & ruling nobility were at the top  White craftsmen and tradesman were in the middle  Indentured servants had little standing  Slaves had no standing

 After the end of slavery, many colonies brought Asian laborers to work the plantations.  The eroding of social barriers led to a social rainbow in some countries.

 The Europeans brought their languages as did later migrants  Many still speak native languages

 Most people live in cities on the coast  Cities developed on the coast to avoid harsh conditions and poor soil inland

 Many Latin American people are migrating to cities and other countries looking for jobs.

 Many cities are primate cities that dominate a country  Megacities are growing on natural shipping areas  Rapid growth causes problems with jobs and housing
