OIL SPILL How it affects the environment. By Justine and Jenny

PURPOSE. We are showing how the oil spills will affect the land.

HYPOTHESIS We think that oil spills affects marine life because it kills the plants that some animals eat, so then they have nothing to eat.

MATERIALS For this project we need half a cup of cooking oil, deep tray, three cups of water, clay, half of the moss package, handheld fan, sponge, spatula, pencil, and paper.

PROCEDURE Take out a block of clay and make a big island in the corner and make little islands in the middle and put the moss on the islands. Get a wet sponge and squeeze the water around the island and put some oil in the tray and it makes bubbles.

RESULTS.The oil went into big blotches and is starting to disintegrate the island, also the moss in the oil is turning brown. The oil made some of the clay shed in the water. The oil did not mix with the water. It just floated on top.

CONCLUSIONS The conclusion is that it damages the environment, plants and animals. It is like poison to plants.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Well we helped each other and Anna helped us a little.
