The Painting The story begins with my great grandparents. My great grandfather worked in the oil industry and was a lawyer. With these occupancies his family became wealthy. His wife enjoyed art shows and would frequently go to europe to buy art. One of the times she went, she bought a very old painting of man named Oliver Cromwell. The painting itself was painted in 1655, meaning to this day it is 358 years old. The painting has since been passed down my family until is has reached my father and is still in a quite good condition. Although there is some paint decay it is amazingly in good condition compared to it not being properly preserved till now.

Who is Oliver Cromwell? Oliver Cromwell was born on the 25th of April in 1599 and died on the 3rd of September in Oliver was an english military and political leader and later he became Lord protector of the commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland. In 1629 he was elected Member of Parliament for Huntingdon and for Cambridge in the short (1640) and Long ( ) Parliaments. Later he entered the English Civil War on the side of the Parliamentarians. During his time in the army he was quickly promoted from leading a single cavalry troop to becoming one of the principal commanders of the New Model Army, playing a heavy role in the defeat of the royalist forces.

More About Oliver Oliver Cromwell fought several battles, these included the battles of Gainsborough, Marston Moor, Newbury ll, Naseby, Langport, Preston, Dunbar, and Worcester. To this day he is considered one of the most controversial figures in the history of the Britain Isles. Some consider him a military dictator while others a hero of liberty. In 2002 a BBC poll in Britian, Cromwell was selected as one of the ten greatest britons of all time. Although in other areas like Ireland he is harshly criticized. Oliver had 9 children: Robert Cromwell, Oliver Cromwell, Bridget Cromwell, Richard Cromwell, Henry Cromwell, Elizabeth Cromwell, James Cromwell, Mary Cromwell, and Frances Cromwell.

Pictures These are some pictures of Oliver Cromwell and his wife Elizabeth Cromwell.
