How to become Proactive  Having a positive attitude towards life  Use language such as -I can, I will, I prefer.  Focus their time and energy on things they can control.

Example

Signs of Proactiveness SSelf-awareness – the understanding that you do have a choice between stimulus and response. If someone insults you, you can choose not to become angry. If you are offered a donut, you can choose not to eat it. CConscience – the ability to consult your inner compass to decide what is right for you. You can make decisions based on unchanging principles, regardless of what is socially favored at the moment.

Signs of Proactivness cont’d CCreative Imagination – the ability to visualize alternative responses. By using your imagination, you can mentally generate and evaluate different options. IIndependent Will – You have the freedom to choose your own unique response. You aren’t forced to conform to what others expect from you.

What is the difference?

Your chance to be choose!  Each day everyone is given 100 chances to choose whether to be proactive or reactive.

Take 100% Responsibility ““People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can’t find them, make them.” George Bernard Shaw, “Mrs. Warren’s Profession”

Reactive choices  Telling people off and hitting them when you are upset  Going into a depression  Calling people a two faced liar and giving silent treatment  Spreading vicious rumors

Proactive Choices FForgiving others CConfronting one and sharing how you feel IIgnoring it and giving others a second chance

Proactive v.s. Reactive Language Reactive LanguageProactive Language I’ll tryI’ do it I have to I choose to I can’tThere’s gotta be a way

How being proactive pays off  Are not easily offended  Take responsibility for their choices  Think before they act  Bounce back when something bad happens

How being proactive pays off pt 2  Focus on things they can do something about and don’t worry about things they can’t  Always find a way to make it happen

4 Steps to being proactive  Self awareness- I can stand apart from myself and observe my thoughts and actions  Conscience- I can listen to my inner voice to know right from wrong

4 Steps to being proactive Cont’d IImagination- I can envision new possibilities WWill power- I have the power to choose

We can control only one thing  We can’t control everything that happens to us  We can control how we respond to what happens to us.

Be Proactive! Its good for you
