Tidal Energy Tidal Power is used to produce electricity by using the energy from the tides of the ocean. Tidal Power is used to produce electricity by using the energy from the tides of the ocean. Tidal Stream systems are very similar to windmills. Kinetic energy from the moving water of the tides spins turbines thus generating electricity. This electricity is produced by using tidal energy generators. Tidal Stream systems are very similar to windmills. Disadvantages of Tidal Energy Effects on plants and animals that live near tidal station Effects on plants and animals that live near tidal station Very expensive to construct a barrage Very expensive to construct a barrage Limited construction locations Limited construction locations Power is often generated when there is a little demand for electricity. Power is often generated when there is a little demand for electricity.

What Causes the Tides? Tides are caused by the relative motions of the Earth, Moon and Sun and the gravitational forces that accompany each. Tides are caused by the relative motions of the Earth, Moon and Sun and the gravitational forces that accompany each. Water levels and tidal currents are caused by the positions of the Sun and Moon relative to the Earths rotation. Bay of Fundy Is a bay on the Atlantic coast of North America. It’s located on the northeast end of the Gulf of Maine between the provinces of new Brunswick and Nova Scotia in Canada. Is a bay on the Atlantic coast of North America. It’s located on the northeast end of the Gulf of Maine between the provinces of new Brunswick and Nova Scotia in Canada.

Why is it so unique? It is known for its high tidal range and the bay is recorded as having the highest vertical tidal range in the world. Tides can rise to the height of a four story building It is known for its high tidal range and the bay is recorded as having the highest vertical tidal range in the world. Electrical Power Generation There have been several proposals to build tidal harnesses for electrical power generation. Mainly involving building barrages which effectively dam off a smaller arm of the bay and extract power from water flowing through them.
