Today’s Question: Where are the seven continents and five ocean? How are these continents important to the history of America?

North America

Some of the first people on our continent walked from Asia over a frozen land bridge in search of big animals. Others may have sailed on rafts.

South America

People migrated from North America to South America thousands of years ago. Others may have come by sea from Asia using islands as stepping stones.

Africa

Earth’s second largest continent. Africa is where the oldest signs of human life have been found. Millions of Africans were taken to the Americans in the transatlantic slave trade.

Europe

Called a continent even though it is not surrounded by water. Connected to Asia, and often called Eurasia. Millions of people left Europe and came to America for a better life.

Asia

Earth’s biggest continent is home to 2 out of every 3 people. China, India, and the Philippines sent many immigrants to North America.

Australia

An island continent with about 20,000 smaller islands form a watery wonderland in the Pacific Ocean. One of these island groups is our 50 th state—Hawaii.

Antarctica

This continent at the South Pole, is the only continent without human life, except for scientists who visit their temporarily.
