Game Play Each player has a card that describes three behaviors of an animal: Its home, its summer behavior and its winter behavior. –Record in notebook The teacher presents seasonal events. Students may discuss who survives. Teacher verifies who survives. For simplicity, all of the non survivors may die, or the teacher may pick some to survive (more realistic). –Record in notebook

Game Play Non-survivors will become offspring of survivors (different animals). They can join one of the survivors and write down new traits. The process is repeated several times. The class can discuss which traits (adaptations) are best suited to this climate.

Seasons– Year 1 All animals survive, animals that eat to get fat do so. Animals that nest in trees and stay all winter do not survive. Animals that burrow do not survive Warm summer with seasonal rain Snowy winter Spring floods from heavy winter snow

Seasons Year 2 All animals survive “Fat” Animals cannot escape. Many do not survive. Warm summer, seasonal rain Active predators out in the fall
