TYC NORTHERN TRUST PRIORITIES More people cared for at home and within their local community Develop choices and options on a range of providers Access to generic services Enhance Person Centred approaches Ensure services are appropriate to individual need Continue with resettlement from long stay hospitals Reduce admissions to hospital for assessment and treatment Develop community based options in day support and respite care and crisis intervention Safeguarding Develop supported living options Developing the skills of others Supporting those with the most complex needs only in buildings based day care.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR NURSES NOW Developing the skills of others Delegate and train care givers to provide complicated interventions. Have the skills competencies to meet complex needs. Provide a service in different settings with differing levels of skill mix. Have the skills and competencies to develop person centered individual policy, procedures and protocols Develop the skills regarding complex needs interventions if they don’t currently exist. Understand delegation and accountability Understand capacity legislation, consent and best interests Understand the roles of others

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR NURSES IN THE FUTURE Developing confidence and competence in teaching others. Develop relationships with integrated care teams. Understand integrated care pathways Mature the skills around contingency planning for individual clients. Develop and understand the roles of stakeholders. Raise the profile of the needs of the population through local commissioning arrangements, stakeholder forums Promote educate and share skills with generic services

WHAT EDUCATION AND TRAINING WILL BE REQUIRED Training or education on developing integrated care pathways to encourage and develop generic services input Education on successfully planning and developing interventions with positive health outcomes Additional skills and expertise required for nurses to represent their profession and subsequent services at commissioning groups, stake holder groups Training in training others Political awareness training Knowledge and skills to be enhanced regarding supported living, alternative respite and day support services and the roles other stakeholders have in this e.g. RQIA Capacity Legislation training Enhance and develop safeguarding skills Knowledge,skill and knowhow in delivering standards within the Learning Disability Framework Contemporary clinical interventions training Enhance knowledge regarding responsibilities in delegation
