Problem Solving/Engineering Design Process By: Nehemiah Phillips Bradley Asbury Cyra Jones
Step 1: Define Problem Scrap wood needs to be made into a wooden puzzle cube Must design a 3-D puzzle system that only uses 27 small cubes to create a large puzzle cube when assembled
Step 2: Brainstorm, Research & Generate Idea Our group came up with several designs with the pieces of the cube Researched possible materials for packaging and possible puzzle cube combination
Step 3: Identify Criteria & Specify Constraints Use 27 cubes Forms a 2 ¼ -inch cube when assembled Pieces must interlock Each puzzle piece must have more than 3 but no more than 6 small cubes in it No two puzzles pieces can be the same
Step 4: Develop/ Propose Design & Choose Solution Selected a complicated cube comprised of 6 puzzle pieces
Step 5: Implement Propose Solution Assigned roles in the cube project to group members
Step 6: Make Model/Prototype Designed puzzle pieces on AutoCAD and inventor to make sure puzzle cube would assemble correctly
Step 7: Evaluate Solution & It’s Consequences Design works but only has one combination
Step 8: Reform Design No changes was made
Step 9: Create Final Design Final puzzle pieces built, painted and assembled into a cube Packaging/ direction made and placed with finished puzzle
Step 10: Communicate Processes/ Result Technical report written over project and project shared with the class
