Presentation transcript:

Since there isn’t a lot of tissue identification in Fundamentals of Molecular Medicine, there is no separate practical exam in this course. However, starting in Fundamentals of Cellular Medicine, and nearly every course afterward, there is a histology practical exam during exam week. Therefore, we are posting this description of the histology lab exams here in case you want to know (gunners usually ask us anyway). Also, be aware that all histology exams are cumulative. Typically, there are questions on these practical exams, with 2 or 3 cumulative questions that often have some relation to the current course content. Note that, because there is no practical exam for Molecular Medicine, the first practical in Cellular Medicine may have slightly more cumulative questions than usual.

The laboratory exam has three components: 1. computer still images 2. glass and digital slides 3. electron micrographs Your answers will be written on a separate answer sheet, and will be of the fill-in/short answer variety. Although most questions ask you to identify the tissue/structure, there may be one or a few that require more critical thinking. The examples here are from your lab manual and slide set. The images and slides on the exam are ones you haven’t seen before, but should recognize if you are well prepared.

The laboratory exam has three components: 1.computer still images – These images are on Questionmark, and are similar to what you will see on the weekly exams, similar to the one below. On your separate answer sheet, you will have to write “Golgi apparatus” to get the answer correct. 2.glass and digital slides 3.electron micrographs Identify the cellular organelle within the blue circle.

The laboratory exam has three components: 1.computer still images 2.glass and digital slides – You and your tablemates will share a tray like the one below. The tray will have glass slides, which have circled regions. Typically, we ask you to identify the tissue/organ/structure within the circle. The digital slides will be similar to the glass slides, but you will access them using the computer. 3.electron micrographs

The laboratory exam has three components: 1.computer still images 2.glass and digital slides 3.electron micrographs – Your tray will also have about 3-7 electron micrographs, each with a few circled items. We can ask about the circled items, the whole micrograph, or some functional consideration of the circled structures.
