Partnering with Parents
Every School, a Good School In WPS 2012, our Education Minister defined the 4 Key Attributes of a Student-Centric, Values-Driven Education: Every School, a Good School Every Teacher, a Caring Educator Every Student, an Engaged learner First and foremost is Every School in Singapore will be a Good School, that caters to the needs of its students well and we will have a broader definition of success beyond academic achievement and help our students discover their unique talents and passions & for every school to be a good school, … Finally, “Every Parent… “ as it emphasizes very clearly that the parents will be most important partner and stakeholder that the school needs to work with to nurture our students into engaged learners Every Parent, a Supportive Partner
QTSS Partnership Framework The School works with many stakeholders and partners and the parents being one of the key stakeholders, we will take a few minutes to talk about how the school works with our stakeholders. In QTSS, we have a partnership framework that guides our practices with our various stakeholders. As you can see from our partnership framework, the key purpose of our partnership efforts is to realise our vision of “nurturing a Leader in every learner” At the outermost of the Framework are 3Cs, which are the 3 key principles that guides our partnership practices with our partners.
‘3Cs’ Approach to Partnership This is the philosophy that guides us in our partnership with our stakeholders. Bringing the focus back to the school’s partnership with the parents, we will share with you our beliefs on how the 3C approach can help the school and you to work purposefully together to grow every student (your children) into an engaged learner
Clarity (Valuable Partnership) Why do the school and parents need to work together? What can we achieve together? How can we work together? Some examples/ suggestions: 1. Students spend equal amount time in school and at home- Actively communicate with each other if there is any issue and concerns 2. “Seek first to understand then to be understood” Clarity Why do the school and parents need to work together? (In Secondary School, they spend half their time between school and home. As they grow, they will develop their values, opinions and they will also face different challenges too. It will be helpful if parents and teachers can actively engage each other and through the process, develop a healthy emotional bank account with each other so that we can trust and work together with each other if there are any issues to be resolved) How can we work together? (Actively communicate with each other when there is any issue and concerns, reinforce certain values that the school wish to grow through our CCE programme) Seek first to understand, then to be understood
