WARM UP Mercantilism can be explained as… In three words, please describe each philosopher John Locke Thomas Hobbes Jean Jacques Rousseau (You may also draw the smiley faces……. )

CURRENT EVENTS We will do current events every Thursday! We will alternate weeks to make sure each student has the chance to choose the article. Articles must be submitted to Ms.Pierrot by that Tuesday! Articles should be focused on either politics or historical happenings. Please do not bring articles about celebrities, fashion, sports, etc. In addition to the article, please develop 3-4 discussion questions. These should be questions which will initiate conversation. If you can find a video on the article topic that is GREAT but not required.

STAMP ACT CONGRESS 9 of the 13 colonies participated in the Stamp Act Congress. SIGNIFICANCE- First time majority of the colonies came together to oppose British rule Britain's response? They repealed the Stamp Act!

DECLARATORY ACT Passed the same day they repealed the Stamp Act Gave British Parliament the legal right to tax and make decisions for the American colonies “in all cases” PREDICT  How did the colonists feel about this act?

OTHER ACTS Townshend Acts (1767) - Purpose of these were to simply take revenue from the colonists Tea Act (1773) - gave British merchants advantage over the colonists -> Respond with the Boston Tea Party (dumped 342 chests of British tea into the harbor) Intolerable Acts (1773) D=28436

COLONISTS RESPONSE…

CAUSE AND EFFECT What caused the British to respond with the intolerable acts? What effect did the repeal of the Stamp Act have?

INTOLERABLE ACT Please look at the intolerable acts which have been provided Once you have examined them, you are to write a “letter” to your brother back in England. He is one who is devoted to the King. In your “letter” you must try to convince him that the King is out of line and mistreating the colonists. Provide evidence from the Intolerable Acts, Stamp Act, and Declaratory Act. Also discuss the significance of the Stamp Act Congress. Provide an introduction, body paragraph, and a conclusion.

TIMELINE OF TENSION Create a timeline of the events which we have discussed so far. (Include the year, brief written description, and an image) We will continue adding to this as we step closer towards independence.
