History of Arizona  From Arizona was controlled by Mexico.  The Great Depression of hit Arizona hard.  Arizona became the 48 th state in 1912.

What is in Arizona?  The Grand Canyon  Petrified forest National park  Hoover Dam

Vacation Spots in Arizona  Petrified Forest National Park  Hoover Dam  Scottsdale  Phoenix

Government  The Governor is Janice K. Brewer.  There is no current Lieutenant Governor.  The Senators are John McCain and Jeff Flake.

Population  Approximately million people live in Arizona.  million of the people live in Phoenix.  About 250,000 people live in Scottsdale.

State Bird  The state bird of Arizona is the Cactus Wren.  The Cactus Wren can be 7-8 inches long.  It became a state bird in 1973.

State Flag  Has 13 rays of red and gold on the top.  The rays represent the 13 original colonies of the union.  The flag adopted in 1917.

State Tree and Flower  State Tree- The Yellow Palo Verde.  Can grow up to 25 feet tall.  State Flower- The Saguaro Cactus Blossom.  Became the official State Flower in 1931.

Natural Resources  Arizona is U.S.A.’s primary copper producer.

Interesting Facts  It is one of the hottest states.  Its nickname is The Grand Canyon State.  Its highest point is Humphreys Peak at 12,633 feet.
