Safety Belt Use

Goals Increase recognition of high risk situations. Improve your decision-making skills. Help you create a support network in your community. Instill a higher sense of responsibility in us.

Welcome Welcome and thank you for participating in this life-saving project. The purpose of this training is to learn and teach each other more about the importance of safety belts, and how to use them correctly and consistently.

Madrina-Padrino The Madrina-Padrino concept is very clear. As Madrinas or Padrinos (Godparents) we promise to take responsibility for our Godchild in every way in the event that the child’s parents are no longer in their lives. Madrinas and Padrinos of Traffic Safety promise to take responsibility for the safety of their loved ones (regarding traffic safety) when there is lack of TS knowledge.

Madrinas and Padrinos At the end of this module you will all graduate as Madrinas and Padrinos of Traffic Safety (Safety Belt Use).

Defining The Problem Hispanics have lower rates of safety belt use than other ethnic groups in the U.S. Motor Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death in Hispanics age The single most effective way to reduce injuries in a crash is to correctly use a safety belt on every trip, every time.

Safety Belt Use Do you know anybody that was injured or killed in crash because they were not wearing their safety belt? Why do people choose to not wear their safety belt?

Facts She thinks she is not at risk without her seatbelt. She is…and so is everyone else in the car.

Laws Texas law requires that drivers and front seat passengers in all vehicles must be secured by a safety belt. Children under 17 years of age must be secured with a safety belt or in a child safety seat, whether they are sitting in the front or in the back. *Please refer to back seat bullets.
