Youth for Christ Juvenile Justice Ministry 5 Signs of a Healthy JJM Ministry Site

What are the signs of a healthy JJM Ministry?

Healthy Ministry Sign #1 Staff understand the entire JJM System

Staff understand the entire JJM System  Knowing the process and flow of youth through the JJM system

Challenge Do you know the JJM process in your community?

Youth Arrested Or Detained Step 1 Runaway, Abuse, or Neglect ACJC Intake Officer Step 2 Release Detention Hearing Step 3 Adjudicatory Hearing Step 4 Disposition Hearing Step 5 Alternative Placement State Juvenile Facility Aftercare Emergency Shelter The steps can end at any time once a teen is released

Staff understand the entire JJM System  Knowing the process and flow of youth through the JJM system  Having key relationships with judges, probation officers, client managers, parole officers. Create a list Who do you know? Who do you need to know?

Staff understand the entire JJM System  Knowing the process and flow of youth through the JJM system  Having key relationships with judges, probation officers, client managers, parole officers.  Knowing the difference between residential, detention, and committed facilities. Where will you fit in best?  Where do you have open doors? What role can you step into naturally right now? Where do you start?

Healthy Ministry Sign #2 Strong relationship within the state/county/private or residential facility

Having relationships with key facility leaders (Donut Days, Cook IN’s) YFC is recognized on the campus as a contributor to healthy youth behavior Chaplains are recognized as a necessity at the facilities (interagency agreement or a Memo of Understanding with the administration)

Healthy Ministry Sign #3 Does the program minister to JJM kids inside & outside detention/local placements?

Map your community County Facilities Group Homes Shelters Other Key Non Profits Key Churches

Does the program minister to JJM kids inside & outside detention/local placements? Do you know youth's names? Do you know when they get out? Do volunteers or programs know youth's names or where they are at on their spiritual journey? Follow up for life long discipleship (mentor) plugged into a local church community Volunteers are communicating names and have relational ministry, if a youth attends two different programs the volunteers know that and are aware of their story and what has been talked about and/or promised

Healthy Ministry Sign #4 Multiplication

Multiplication Are you reproducing yourself? Empowering vs just volunteers who have min responsibility Do volunteers know their gift set (for that matter do JJM staff know theirs?) Strengthfinder, SHAPE from Purpose Driven, Spiritual gift tests on internet S.H.A.P.E.---your unique blend of Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences Volunteers using their strengths on campus for consistent ministry (teaching, preaching, discipleship, following up with new believers, management, administration) Does the volunteer team represent different local churches and is it similar, ethnically, to the JJM student population?

Multiplication

Healthy Ministry Sign #5 Is the program producing mature Christians that can teach and lead?

Holistic ministry site care (meeting needs of youth where ever they are at in their spiritual journey) Do you know youth that have made a commitment to Christ and now are a part of a local church? Are youth being discipled on the "outs" or involved in discipling others in the local church or parachurch organization? (or process in place to do this)?

Is the program producing mature Christians that can teach and lead? Our Mission YFC reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other likeminded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to the Word of God and prayer, passion for sharing the love of Christ and commitment to social involvement. Are we seeing deep change in the lives of teens shown by godliness in lifestyle, dedication to the word of God and committed to social involvement?

Is the program producing mature Christians that can teach and lead? Hebrews 4:12 (New International Version) 12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
