South Africa 2010 – Germany 2006 The Program: - InWEnt is a German government agency dealing with capacity building worldwide - Co-operation between colleagues in South Africa with their counterparts from previous German Host Cities and other involved institutions - Agreed in Government negotiations of Possibilities to cover all aspects of preparations - Co-operation between the German agencies to offer holistic approach in assistance

South Africa 2010 – Germany 2006 Challenges: World Cup is national event, covering the whole country 6 weeks in total with 4 weeks of tournament 3,2 million tickets representing to ticket holders plus additional fans – number unpredictable Ticket holders, FIFA family, teams and fans traveling the entire country during the whole period of tournament Emergency response capacity in general relatively small Great diversity in emergency response capacity in different host cities Large number of different parties involved in preparations – co-operation essential The world is watching

South Africa 2010 – Germany 2006 Generic risks of World Cup Large movement of people on roads and in the air increased risk of accidents at airports and on roads mass events at the same time in different venues huge crowds in cities increased number of “normal emergencies” (average of 2 ‰ treatments in sport events – 92 per or 180 per ) experience in Germany 2006: number of daily routine emergency responses doubled during tournament without having significant incidents in case of major incident the number of casualties is expected to be 2 % of participants (920 per ) attacks
