NGO- Agricultural and Social Development Society(ASDS)

 Initiated in 1985  Focus- Tribal development in Khammam district in AP  Activities- Forest management, Livelihood generation, Human rights, disaster relief work etc

 Conflict in Chhattisgarh-Tribal people caught between Maoists, people’s militia Salwa Judum and special police officers (SPO)  Since 2005 these tribal people have been fleeing the state of Chhattisgarh to neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh (Khammam district).  new influx of tribal people to AP after the start of operation Green Hunt; creation of SPO  Legally they are called IDP(internally displaced persons)

 No rehabilitation program setup by the government for the IDPs  They are not recognized by the government of AP neither are they able to return to Chhattisgarh  Lost their home, no means of livelihood, severe levels of malnourishment in children, no means for education etc

 Started working on the IDP issue since 2007  Conducted joint survey with the government  Set up solidarity committee  Lobbying work  Help with obtaining NREGA cards, Ration cards  ICDS centers  Education  Health

 Support since 2007  AID CP’s support in Rs. 5,00,000

 Results of Survery-  Total habitation- 203  Total families-4030  Total population- 16, 361  ASDS direct intervention  District Covered- Khammam  Total habitations- 148  Total no. of families- 2,658  Total population under ASDS intervention- 10,364 ▪ Children (M-1,938; F-1,850)

Families without cards- 951 Total no. of families New cards added in

 Families eligible – 2658  Families who obtained ration cards uptill Dec  New cards issued in  Families yet to obtain ration cards- 2133

 Total Children  Boys-1088; Girls- 949  Total Children going to School  Boys-693; Girls-624  8 RBCS- 656  23 ALS- 529  Other Schools-132  Main Streamed Children-111  Boys-49; Girls-62

 Total Villages- 148  Total ICDS centers in  Total ICDS centers in (67 new centers)

 8 RBC centers sanctioned by Sarva Siksha Abhiyan/SSA(govt. agency)  28 ALS schools (with midday meals) sanctioned  ALS teachers obtained pending salaries for

 More ICDS centers needed to cover all settlements  > 700 children still in need of some form of education  No proper health care/visits by health care workers. Children lacking immunization  Drinking water being a cause of death by diarrhea. In need of bore wells for safe drinking water.  In need of temporary rice coupons to obtain rice at a subsidized price from Ration shops  More families need NREGA/job cards
