Hypothesis Practice

A Hypothesis is… An educated guess relating 2 variables. It must be testable An educated guess relating 2 variables. It must be testable

Hypothesis Format If the dependent variable is related to the independent variable, then the independent variable affects the dependent variable in some way. If the dependent variable is related to the independent variable, then the independent variable affects the dependent variable in some way. Ex. If heart rate is related to exercise, then the more intense the exercise the Ex. If heart rate is related to exercise, then the more intense the exercise the faster heart rate will increase. faster heart rate will increase.

Plant Growth and the Amount of Light If plant growth is related to the amount of light, then plants will grow faster if given more light. If plant growth is related to the amount of light, then plants will grow faster if given more light.

Human Age and the Chance of Heart Attack If the chance of heart attack is related to human age, then younger humans have a smaller chance of heart attack than old geezers. If the chance of heart attack is related to human age, then younger humans have a smaller chance of heart attack than old geezers.

Skin Cancer and Amount of UV Light If skin cancer is related to UV light, then greater UV absorption increases the chance of skin cancer. If skin cancer is related to UV light, then greater UV absorption increases the chance of skin cancer.

Leaf Color Change and Temperature If leaf color change is related to temperature, then cool (below 20 C) temperatures will quicken leaf color change. If leaf color change is related to temperature, then cool (below 20 C) temperatures will quicken leaf color change.

Amount of Sleep and Student Test Scores If student test scores are related to the amount of sleep, then students who sleep longer the night before an exam will score higher than those who do not. If student test scores are related to the amount of sleep, then students who sleep longer the night before an exam will score higher than those who do not.
