1st Quarter Journal Warm-Ups

Monday- Literary Term Tuesday- Vocabulary Word Wednesday- Current Event Thursday- Poem Friday- Journal

Journal Requirements Respond to all prompts with a minimum of a half-page on college-ruled paper. ONLY 2 JOURNAL ENTRIES A PAGE. Number every journal- whether you complete the journal or not. Keep journals in order. Write neatly! If I can’t read it, you will not get credit. Do not have any other assignments or notes on your journal pages

Journal 1- [Number each the top] Answer this prompt on a separate sheet of paper or in your spiral notebook. What are your goals and expectations for this semester (academic or extracurricular)? Be detailed in your response. ( You do NOT need to write the prompt. Journal Entries must be at LEAST a ½ page long. Write neatly. You can write on the back of the page)

Journal 2 Most people have been profoundly changed by a book. If not a book, possibly a song or movie. Think about the book, song or movie that profoundly changed you or your way of thinking. How did it change the way you think, or even the way you live?

Journal 3 Draw your childhood neighborhood. The following does NOT need to be in complete sentences: “Walk” through the neighborhood, labeling who you meet and what happened at each spot. Finally, brainstorm a list of “stories” from your past, like “the time I …” Turn in “I Am From” poem to the basket if you haven’t already. Remember: QUIET during Warm Ups!!

JOURNAL 4 These “episodes” (minimum of 5) can be in the form of a LIST but MUST be in complete sentences and contain an adequate amount of detail.

Journal 6 Write about one or all of the following… Swimming The stars The most frightened you’ve ever been Green places The closest you ever felt to God or nature Reading and books that have changed your life Physical endurance A teacher you had Don’t be abstract. Write the real stuff. Be honest and detailed.

Journal 7 Read the “9 Life Lessons Everyone Can Learn…” Think about a life lesson you have learned through a children’s book. Summarize the children’s book, and explain how the lesson is conveyed and why it stood out to you.

Journal 8 Why is it important to reflect on experiences of your past? How does this reflection effect choices you make in the present and future? Give at least one example of how reflecting on an event of your past effected a choice you made.
