15 September AUA event 15 September AUA event

AUA event Co-hosted by AUA Acopian Center for the Environment and AUA College of Science and Engineer OZONE: All There is Between You and UV A short introduction into the problem of the ozone layer depletion was followed by the international response and results gained by the joint efforts 30 years after the signature of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer; the issue of ozone depleting substances versus greenhouse gases was covered during the talk. A short Skype session with the Information Manager Anne Fenner from UNEP DTIE, OzonAction Division helped the students to understand the main functions of the clearing-house of OzonAction and opened the doors to the vast amount of information available on the website of OzonAction Division.

SEPTEMBER 17 SEPTEMBER 17 Field trip to “Amberd” Field trip to “Amberd” Ozone Measuring Station Ozone Measuring Station

During the field-trip the issues of the ozone layer depletion, the international response, Armenia’s input and results gained by the joint efforts 30 years after the signature of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer were presented to the students of the Gymnasium after Anania Shirakatsi and other participants. To sum-up the information, total ozone measurements by Dobson spectrophotometer were demonstrated by the operator.

The visit to the ozone- measuring station was concluded by the visit to the Medieval Amberd Fortress located nearby.
