 Please save questions until the end of the slide.  Jot down any questions you may have on your questions sheet. Feel free to meet with me after the presentation or turn in your questions and I will answer and return them to you through your child’s folder.

 Please check your child’s folder daily.  There are 2 pockets -*Return and -*Take home.  There is a zipper pouch for notes.  This folder will contain a zip-lock bag for lunch money ( in zipper pouch)  Please label all money-name, and purpose  Keep all money separate, and send exact change.  Homework is due every Friday.

 This folder will come home weekly (Thursdays) with your child’s graded papers.  Attached to the graded papers is a Graded Paper Log- stapled to the front.  The Graded Paper Log will have your child’s recorded grades for each subject/test we took the previous week, along with other info.  You will need to sign the log and return it to school along with the purple folder.  Students must return both log and folder to remain in the homework club of the month.  The tests are yours to keep.  Have your child make corrections to any mistakes made on their test.  I do make mistakes- if something is graded wrong let me know.

 Homework will go home at the beginning of every week.  I understand if you need to complete the packet on other days than assigned, but please try to complete only one a night in the order requested.  Homework is due every Friday.  These assignments will ABSOLUTELY prepare your child for his/her tests that week.  Every month your child will receive a treat if he/she completes all homework.

 Cold Reads- These are reading comprehension tests we will take every week.  Spelling- Every other week.  Phonics- Every other week.  Math- Test every week.  Writing/English- these assessments are graded using a writing piece your child has written.

 Fontas & Pinnell – these are assessments used to track your child’s reading level. We complete these assessments 3x a year on each student.  Your child must be on a level C to come to 1 st grade. If your child is not on this level, he/she stands a chance of returning to Kindergarten by the end of the 1 st 9 weeks.  Your child must be on a level I to progress to 2 nd grade at the end of this year.  Math Benchmarks- We also assess these 3x a year. These are to track students learning in mathematics this year.

 Several of you already participated in the MyOn reading last year. The login and password are still the same.  Login- students MSIS #  Password- Students first initial and last name.  We track time read through myon, it will also be recorded on your child’s graded paper log.  Starting Sept.2 nd we will begin myon challenge in our room for time read. Our goal is to read10 hours for a treat by December.  After Christmas, we will participate in a school wide competition. That goal will be 15 hours for a special reward at the end.  Goals are subject to change- notes will be sent home once these competitions begin.  This is a great fun way for your child to read- you may use this as your reading log on the homework if you wish.

 We are using an M-mastery, S- satisfactory, N-needs improvement, and U-unsatisfactory grading scale.  M’s will not be given until the end of the year.  Your child will be assessed per skill.

 It will be difficult at first!  Don’t give up!  Here are some study techniques:  Complete the reading log with your child.  Review the test with your child, and make corrections to any mistakes.  Practice reading and recalling information.  Practice reading, recalling, and relocating information.  Think aloud after reading, talk about the characters, the setting, and what they think will happen next.  Your child will do well if YOU read with them at home too!  The questions will be read to them until week 5. After that they must complete tests independently.  Complete the Homework.

 At the FIRST of every month send snack.  Send enough for 25 students.  We will all eat the same snack together everyday.  So, we will be taking turns eating your child’s snack.  Please NO Peanuts or Drinks

 Lunch is $2.50  Send Lunch Money in the zip-loc bag in zipper pouch OR through the internet at mealpay.com  If you choose the meal pay option print out your confirmation and send it in your child’s folder, incase of any disputes.  Juice is the new Milk- Your child receives milk with their tray, but they all want juice. It is an extra $0.75. If your child wants a juice you need to send either money (labeled for that) or a note with permission.  We eat at 12:00-12:25 You are always welcome to join us.

 We split the day up into math and literacy stations. Your child will visit work stations daily.  We begin the day with math lessons, and will complete three 15 minute math station rotations. There are 9 math stations so your child will have visited all stations by Thursday.  We will begin literacy lessons, and stations after math. There are 9 literacy stations. Your child should complete 5-9 stations daily. These stations will last about 10 minutes.  As you can see we don’t have a minute to spare, so please encourage and support classroom rules. We Love Common Core!!

 Math Journals- Students will work with Mrs. Lori in small group setting. Students will practice writing math problems, and supporting evidence in solving math equations.  Math work- Students work with partners to review previously taught math skills.  Math reading- Students choose books on their level all pertaining to math and skills taught.  Math listening- Students will use an ipad as a listening device to watch a math lesson or participate in a math game.  Number Sense- Students will use manipulatives and games to review skills taught.  Guided math- students will work with me in a small group to ensure understanding.  Math Apps- Students will use ipads to participate in math reading, games, lessons etc.  Interactive Math- Students will work in a small group to participate in a smart board game or large carpet game to review skills taught.  Math Building- Students practice using math manipulatives to solve problems.

 Word work- Students work together to build words, work on spelling, language, and vocabulary.  Read to self- Students choose books on their level and build reading stamina through silent reading.  Book study- Students will work together reading and studying aspects of a book for a week. They will all share the same book and have multiple jobs. At the end of the week all groups will share their book and encourage others to read it.  Phonics - Students will work together to practice phonics skills covered weekly, through reading coding and word building.  Listening - Students will share the ipad to listen to stories and write a reading response.  Interactive Group - Students will participate in literacy games to build language, phonics, and vocabulary skills.  Writing - Students will work small group with Mrs. Lori to work on writing and language skills taught.  Guided Reading - Student's will work small group with me to practice reading, also to ensure skills taught.  Poetry - Students will read, write, and respond to poetry with their partners.

 Each day your child starts off with their clip at “ready to learn”.  Based on the choices they make throughout the day, they can move their clip up or down.  We believe in positive reinforcement.  Your child will be rewarded daily for good choices.  I don’t believe in taking away recess, instead for every clip down your child makes, he/she will walk that many laps around the track silently on the playground.  Our last option for negative behavior is parent contact. This could be a think sheet, sad note, phone call, or conference.  Please check your child’s daily behavior log and talk to them about their day.

 The best form of communication is through my . It is listed on every homework packet, and also on a magnet you took home at meet the teacher. Please take one if you did not that night.  A note in your child’s folder is the next best form of communication.  If you ever want to set up a conference I will work with you on a time and date.

 Please join my Remind101 app at this time.  This app allows me to text you simple reminders, or contact everyone at once in case of an emergency.  This app will not reveal anyone's personal numbers.  You cannot respond to a text- if there is any concern me about the reminder.  Please text with the message: to join at this time.

 Please turn in your questions at my blue table. Make sure your child’s name is on it, so I can respond and send it home tomorrow.  Feel free to speak with me if you have any concerns at this time.  I am looking forward to a great year.  Thank you!
