Presentation transcript:

This presentation will cover all of the following topics and explain them in detail. At the end of the presentation there will be time for questions. Aims of the Activities What is Computer Science group task Individual Homepages Problems encountered Torin Pitchers, Aaron Lapper, George Savill and Lennox Kpakiwa

During the first week we undertook a number of activities. These include Creating a homepage for each of the group members and discussing the definition of Computer Science. Here are the aims of these activities: Bond with our new group members Get to know the skills and hobbies of the individuals within the group Learn how to organise and share the work load between all of the members of the group Enhance our communication skills both inside and outside of the University grounds Taking individual responsibility to contribute to the group Torin Pitchers, Aaron Lapper, George Savill and Lennox Kpakiwa

One of the first tasks that we had to do as a group was discuss the definition of Computer Science. To begin with we all wrote 10 points associated with this topic individually and then combined the content to form one conclusive document. The document is as follows: Computer science is not: Computer Science is not just programming Computer science is not about using existing solutions to problems, but thinking of new efficient ways of overcoming them using problem solving. [University of Boston,3] Computer Science is not limited to anything powered by electricity; a human is a computer Computer Science is not static; it is always changing and advancing Computer Science is not applicable to anything that does not have a process Computer science is: Computer Science is the study of Principles, Application and technologies of computing and computers. [Mississippi State University, 1] Computer Science is about understanding the limits of what computational techniques can do. [University of Bristol, 2] Computer Science is applying mathematical skills to software development and problem solving. Computer science can be applied to many different fields, theoretically any e.g. Life support machines created in this field. Computer science can be seen everywhere in daily life. Torin Pitchers, Aaron Lapper, George Savill and Lennox Kpakiwa

The final task of the week was to complete a homepage for the work that will be undertaken during the next six weeks. To ensure that we could simply post the work onto the site without any issues we used WordPress to create our blogs, using the same housestyle and themes to ensure fluidity within the team. Here are the individual Homepages. Aaron LapperGeorge Savill Torin Pitchers Lennox Kpakiwa Torin Pitchers, Aaron Lapper, George Savill and Lennox Kpakiwa

During the week we encountered a number of problems when completing the tasks, here is a list of the problems and the solution we applied to fix them. Picking a website development tool – To counter this we used a website editing tool called Wordpress. This is because it provided us with all of the tools to meet the task specification in a simplistic and professional way. Not meeting one of the group members – Because one of the group members was not present for the week we split the workload between the 4 present members. We then used a Facebook group and chat to communicate making sure that deadlines and task criteria was met. Torin Pitchers, Aaron Lapper, George Savill and Lennox Kpakiwa
