The Statue of Zeus was one of the most magnificent monuments built in ancient times. In ancient times the colossal statue included in the Seven Wonders of the World. THE STATUE OF ZEUS AT OLYMPIA

IT WAS DESIGNED BY THE FAMOUS SCULPTOR OF THE TIME, PHIDIAS AROUND 430 BC AND PLACED IN THE TEMPLE OF ZEUS IN ANCIENT OLYMPIA IN ELIS, WESTERN PELOPONNESE, NEAR THE RIVER ALPHEUS.

DESCRIPTION; The technique Phidias based essentially on wood. The body of the statues was wooden and imbibe from a special fluid not drained. The wood was coated with layers of gold and ivory plates. The eyes were of precious stones. The mantle of gold. The laurel wreath on his head was of green enamel. The seated Zeus stood in the temple up into three steps and according to estimates reached 12 meters in height.
