Handbook Review The goals of the Research Rookies Program are to: – Engage students in faculty-mentored research – Provide a positive learning environment – Help students pursue their goals – Introduce students to research – Give students the opportunity to meet other driven young people – Give students the opportunity to present at Undergraduate Research and Artistry Day

Peer Leaders Peer Leaders are responsible for: – Assisting with questions/concerns – Obtaining progress reports – Coordinating group activity – Notifying OSEEL staff of any issues

Faculty Mentors Faculty mentors are expected to: – Provide learning resources and necessary tools – Meet with the student – Attend the Faculty Mentor Orientation Luncheon – Assist the student with preparation for URAD – Attend URAD – Notify OSEEL staff of any issues

Meeting Information Meetings are mandatory If you cannot attend a meeting, notify OSEEL before missed meeting Each unexcused absence will result in 10% stipend deduction More than 3 unexcused absences will result in dismissal

Time Commitment Research Rookies should expect to spend 5-10 hours per week conducting research If this is a problem, contact OSEEL ASAP!

Stipend Students will receive stipend, ONLY if: – Present at URAD – In good academic standing – Have less than 3 meeting absences during school year

Finding a Faculty Mentor Step 1 Read faculty profiles on your department’s website ( Step 2 Create a list of at least 3 faculty members whose research interests you Step 3 Send the names of these faculty to Rachel Step 4 (TO BE COMPLETE BY OSEEL) Rachel will the faculty members you have selected; you will be CCed on these s
