The first self-made female millionaire invented a hair product for African- American women. Walker manufactured the product in Indianapolis, eventually on Indiana Avenue. She taught others how to run their own businesses. She donated much of her money to charities, schools, orphanages, retirement homes, the NAACP and the YMCA. MADAM C.J. WALKER
Important school teacher in Indianapolis Public Schools. Later she became principal. She trained 61 teachers, five of which later became principals. She was the first president of Indiana’s NAACP chapter. MARY ELLEN CABLE
