Objectives 1.Differentiated and prioritized supply chain risks by frequency of occurrence and impact 2.Described possible potential strategies for each risk. These strategies may differ based on the category of impact and frequency of occurrence.

Definitions Supply chain risks: –“as anything that presents an impediment or a hazard to information, material, and product flows from original suppliers to the delivery of the final product to the ultimate end-users”* Supply chain risk management: –“is the identification and management of risks affecting a supply network through a coordinated effort among supply chain members to reduce vulnerability as a whole”.* *Cagliano, Anna Corinna, Alberto De Marco, Sabrina Grimaldi and Carlo Rafele An integrated approach to supply chain risk analysis. Journal of Risk Research 15, no. 7:

Activity 1: 10 min small group discussion Place the following risks in the quadrant you think is most appropriate. Select a reporter who will be prepared to discuss how you came to a decision, what factors were considered 1.Delay of fund disbursement for procurement 2.Leakages from the supply chain 3.Sudden increase in fuel prices 4.Clinical and/or operational staff turnover 5.Flooding of sections of the country 6.Change to global treatment recommendations 7.Failure of the central electronic database 8.Global shortages of products

Activity 2: 15 min small group discussion Select one or two high impact/high frequency risk(s) and describe approaches to mitigate/address the risk. Examples of management approaches might include: –investing in new systems –programs or monitoring capabilities –developing redundancy or multiplicity in suppliers and distribution mechanisms –developing contingency plans –monitoring the risk without any particular management in order to dedicate resources somewhere else –Others…

Activity 3: 10 min small group discussion Looking across the four quadrants, describe how strategies generally differ in addressing the risks from each of these quadrants.
