Peter the Great By: HW
Map Location of Peter the Great Here is a map of Russia while Peter was in control of the country and Government.
What are the two biggest challenges Peter faced while in power? One big challenge that Peter faced was when he wanted and tried to bring western technology to Russia. He wanted to improve the life for Russian people. However, it was not an easy transition. He used fear and terror to get his plans for new technology across to the Russian people. He became more powerful through his plans.
Challenge 2 A second challenge that he faced was to strength the central government of Russia. Some citizens wanted their own freedom. But there were other, mostly the government already in place, that wanted to keep it the way it was or as close to it as possible. The way that Peter handled the situation made Russia have more selfdom for long after death. By allowing for him to keep the same government Russia became more assertive and active in the world.
What did Peter the Great have in common with all the monarchs? Peter the Great had a few things in common with the other monarchs. One was that he wanted to expand Russia’s borders. Everyone wanted more land and he was one of them. Another thing that he had in common was that he wanted to bring western technology to Russia. Although it may have not been western for the other monarchs they also wanted knew technology to have knew inventions and ideas to expand.
What did Peter the Great have in common with more than two monarchs. Catherine the Great and Frederick the Great and Peter the Great all named themselves the Greats. The reason for this was because in each of their countries they got done what they needed and either expanded the borders, made technology growth, or helped the economy grow. When their reign of their respected countries was over they were all known as Greats because they had done more for their country then people had in the past, or as much as to make their country better than before.
Which monarch would get along with the monarch? Why? Catherine the Great, because she obviously she is from Russia and also she was an absolute monarch like Peter. They both encourage westernization. Also they both wanted a warm-water port under their rule.
Which monarch would not? Why? Charles I, because he had a different style of ruling. He raised taxes and treated his people badly. He dissolved Parliament. Peter the Great was always liked by his citizens and respected.
Compare the modern map of the nation to the monarch’s kingdom. How has the country changed since the Age of Absolutism? The map of Russia under Peter the Great has change slightly. Russia was and still is one of the biggest countries in the world today. Russia’s border to the east today is still as vast. To the south it is still the same. Russia isn’t controlled as far west as it was during Peter the Great’s reign.
Compare the modern day governments to the reign of Peter the Great. Many modern day governments are different from the reign of Peter the Great. Peter the Great was an absolute monarch, very few absolute monarchs or even monarchs live today.
Under which monarch would you want to live? Two reasons why. Catherine the Great because she was a kind ruler to her people. Also she cared for her people and wanted what was best for them without loosing total control.
In which country would you want to live today? Two reasons why. I would want to live in France because France is a developed country and is militarily strong. Although it wasn’t the first country to be westernized; Russia was. But today France is a more wealthy and better country than Russia.
