Budapest 23/08/2001 Introduction  A technical program including 6 elements:  An intergovernmental mechanism for direct government involvement, policy development and support. FAO Global Strategy. 2 Characterisation, demographic and environmental factors, phenotypic and genetic indicators, In-situ utilization and conservation, Ex-situ conservation, Communication and information system development, Guidelines development and action planning, Collaboration, coordination and policy instrument development.

Budapest 23/08/2001 Historical overview countries identify their NC. 1  Creation of one Regional Focal Point for Europe.  Proposed organisation without sufficient precision.  Light structure and respect of national sovereignty.  France: temporary ERFP for one more year Vienna Workshop.  France accepts the responsibility of developing ERFP.  Full support from NFP of Poland.  A better knowledge of NCs Warsaw Workshop.

Budapest 23/08/2001 Historical overview 2  Following the vote: 19/23 countries accept the proposals.  Light organisational structure.  Simple and country driven functional structure.  ERFP is created - France: ERFP for four year Zurich Workshop.  No agreement between countries to continue.  No structure to stimulate.  ERFP cannot be established by a project.  A vote is organised The Hague Workshop.

Budapest 23/08/2001 European RFP Terms of reference. 1  To assist and enhance the AnGR activities of NFP at the European level and to assist in coordinating those activities within and between other European organisations.  To stimulate the funding and organisation of regional projects, workshops and national programmes on AnGR within the European Region.  To develop and maintain regular contact and exchange between NFPs and FAO.  To stimulate and coordinate the maintenance and further development of national databases within the European Region.

Budapest 23/08/2001 European RFP Organisational structure. 2  Annual meeting of NFPs.  The Steering Committee.  To bring together all NCs annually.  To exchange information on national and sub-regional activities.  To decide on ERFP budget, Steering Committee and Secretariat and the future activities.  To be advised by technical, political and organisational experts.  5 members including representatives of each of European sub-regions.  To plan or execute activities, to represent the ERFP.  To ensure that decisions are not taken against the majority of countries.  The Secretariat.  To execute decisions, make proposals and distribute relevant information

Budapest 23/08/2001 European RFP Funding organisation. 3  Funded through financial contributions made by donor countries.  In a Trust Fund administered by the Steering Committee through the Secretariat.  Held by and fully audited by EAAP.
