Structured pathway Web-based guidance e.g. TT, ‘Lead or be Led’, Education Conf, structures for teaching sessions Available to all NOT a list of requirements / competencies Potential to apply for MEF role when SpR

Development programme Recognisable but informal programme Complement and support Ed. Supervisors Named MEF for each trainee / mentee Preferably in same trust Discussion, guidance, goal-setting

Development programme NOT based on ‘competency’ or appraisal NOT for support of struggling trainees MEFs involved receive mentorship training

Expected outcomes Formalise & develop trainees ed. skills Build stronger links with Ed. Supervisors Deanery develops stronger educational focus Increase MEF numbers, experience & expertise Regular pathway / programme evaluation

What happens next? Outline presented to DME group 20/10/11 Proposal now undergoing review Formal approval from DME group & Ed Supervisors pending Aim to be up and running early 2012 Will present results / update at 2012 Education Conference
