Educator Effectiveness Academy 2012 English Language Arts “Transitioning to the CCSS by Making Strategic and Informed Choices in the Classroom” Day 3, Session 2 1

Getting Ready for Day 3 Session 2 Materials: Chart Paper Markers Reflection/Planning Forms Preparation: Prepare 4 charts with headings to indicate the 4 Criteria on the lesson review tool. Place the charts in the corners of the room. Place markers at each chart. Make sure you have a copy of the Reflection/Planning Form for each participant. 2 Rigor of the CCSS

EEA Summer 2012 ELA Session Outcomes Day 3 Session 2 Participants will… share ELA Project results identify a professional development focus for this year list possible professional learning activities for increased alignment to CCSS reflect and plan school level professional development 3

ELA Lesson Review Project Text Complexity of the text used: o Quantitative o Qualitative, e.g., literary or informational o Reader and Task Alignment of the lesson: o Rigor of the CCSS o Key Areas of Focus/Shift of the CCSS o Instructional Supports o Assessment/Measurability 4

ELA Lesson Review Project 5 Let’s Share! Give a brief overview of the lesson. Identify the text complexity level. Identify areas of alignment Determine one area of need.

ELA Lesson Review Project 6 Group Report! Choose a lesson review to share with the total group. Give details of the lesson plan. Explain how it aligns with the CCSS. Determine where a closer alignment is needed.
