JRA-25 and JCDAS at NCAR Data from Japanese 25-year Reanalysis (JRA-25) and the operational follow- on JMA Climate Data Assimilation System (JCDAS) are managed as a component of the CISL Research Data Archive (RDA) Chronology of events October 2007, agreement reach to distribute JRA-25 from NCAR January 2008, began data services to general users –Details at dss.ucar.edu/news/jra25.html September, 2008 agreement to distribute JCDAS –Operational continuation of JRA-25 is critical for placing today’s weather events into the climate context JRA-25/JCDAS adds to the suite of major reanalyses in the RDA –E.g. ECMWF ERA-40, NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis

Features of JRA-25/JCDAS at NCAR All data users are registered and must agree to JMA’s ‘Condition of Use’ Prepared to share user registration metrics with JMA enabling a combined worldwide dataset impact assessment Currently, about 317 registered users

Access to JRA-25/JCDAS at NCAR All data available through web/RDA portal and NCAR MSS, 11 TB Available dates, 1979 though different data products – 4 x daily, GRIB1 format –Monthly mean, netCDF (NCAR derived from binary) format JRA-25/JCDAS Data User Metrics (Jan.- Sep., ‘08) DomainUsersFiles (K)Amount (TB) NCAR Web/RDA portal Total Excellent cooperation between members of CISL and JMA staff allows comprehensive access to JRA-25/JCDAS products at NCAR
