Percents: both large and small

Remember… Percent means out of one hundred. -You are comparing two numbers as if one is a ‘part’ of an other, ‘original’ -If this ‘part’ is really small, the percent may be less than 1 (ex: 0.01%) -If this ‘part’ is larger than the ‘original’, the percent will be greater than 100 (ex: 150%)

Percents greater than 100% Suppose this space is your original. This is what you start with. 100% of it would be the same thing over again. 150% would be the original 100% PLUS another 50% or half of the original.

Percents less than 1% Suppose this space is your original. This is what you start with. 100% would be the same thing over again.10% of the original would be 1 / 10 or one tenth of the original. 1% of the original would be 1 / 100 or one-one hundredth of the original. (or 10% of the 10%) Any percents less than one would be a part of ONE of this tiny slivers. For example 0.5%, 0.25%, and 0.75% are VERY small percents.
